Fate
of individual German soldiers
Small groups get texts,
pictures and letters of German soldiers resting on the cemetery. The
groups are supposed to make posters about the life of the soldiers.
After this they have to present it to the rest of the group while
standing in front of the individual graves. Though this program the
participant realizes that at every single cross a real person is buried, a
person with his/her own story of life.
The participant learns to search through written texts, to order this
information and to asses on values for him self and others.

Guest lecturer
(contemporary
witnesses W.W.II)
In cooperation with the memorial center ‘Kamp
Westerbork’ we are able to invite contemporary witnesses to
the
youth meeting center. For instance
A
Jewish man who was arrested and experienced tremendousness in several
concentration camps.
Or
a Dutchman who have been in the Dutch resistance and were forced to
fight
in Dutch India.
The participants are sucked
into a true story. Because of this the participant learns to place a war
situation against their own context and learns thereby the far-reaching impact
of it on individuals.
Time:
1
or 2 hours (depends on the reactions and question)
Fees:

Find
the secret message
This search invites children to learn more
about the stories behind the graves and about a war situation. By all
of the 15 questions you have to find a number on the cemetery. When
they've all the numbers, they have to make from each number a letter to
find the secret message.
This secret message takes the youngsters again to the cemetery with a
several special locations. What reminds them again to the cemetery and
his specials.

remembrance the young people hear a text concerning earlier and
actual injustice. Afterwards everybody gets a rose in order to lay it
down by a grave of their own choice. That can be for example the
grave of someone who has the same name, etc.

Peace
rally
This program transfers the whole Youth Meeting Center
into a “task field”. Small groups walk to the
different tasks
with a map. The group receives a letter or a word after completing
each task. Later each group forms the collected letters and words to
a sentence which they have to fill with their own ideas. The peace
rally contains parts of all our programs e.g. multicultural music
quiz, trust games, country and opinion questions, puzzles, prejudice
game, questions over the cemetery…
Wait and see!

Tolerance
test
We offer a so-called "tolerance program":
After an initial self-predicition over one's own tolerance the
participants are asked to choose between possible reactions in
specific situations. These everyday situations deal mainly with
themes such as tolerance towards foreigners, towards people holding
different political views, and towards homosexuals. Afterwards there
is an evaluation according to a certain system, giving points for
certain answers. The young people are thus able to compare the final
result with their initial self-evaluation. The final discussion
offers a great opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences as
well as to focus on certain questions in more detail. It has to be
pointed out that this program is neither "school lessons"
nor a substitute but a free discussion encouraging all participants
to take part actively.
This test was developed by the institution
„Vredeseducatie Utrecht” (Peace education Utrecht)
Time:
1
or 2 hours
Prejudices
It is the central aspect of this program that the young people
are encouraged to make mindful decisions. They will understand the
meaning of terms like “true” or
“untrue”, “fact” and
“opinion”, “generalization”,
“prejudices”, “basic
rights” and “discrimination”. By making
photo collages the
young people will learn that discrimination because of religion, sex,
political persuasion, ethnical background and color of skin not
up-to-date is. Later on there is a discussion about newspaper
articles concerning discrimination.

half a day

boundaries in the form of a song text or make a painting of it.
Time: half a day
Strange
or normal?
By learning more about the living conditions in
other countries, the participants will experience that the aspect of
variety is not a necessary reason that something is strange.
Following this, they have to find good examples for things they
formerly considered as strange, but now as very normal.
Time:
30
minutes
Values
and norms
In nearly all our programs values and norms play a
center role. However, there is also a special "values and norms"
program.
At first, photos are shown to the group. These photos
contain certain situations, e.g. a laughing man, an accident, two
football fans etc. Everyone chooses one photo which he/she likes
most. Now boards with values and norms such as pleasure, love, order,
money etc. are laid down. Everyone chooses a value or norm,
respectively. Small groups are formed discussing in detail their
choices and finally choosing a value/norm that could be supported by
the whole group. The groups discuss with the others and explain among
the whole group why they have chosen a certain value/norm.

about 1,5 hours
