YMC Explanation

The youth meeting center is an educative group accommodation and education centre for schools, exchange projects, foundations, etc. The youth meeting center is part of the youth department of the German war grave service. It is right next to the 17 hectare vast German war cemetery. 32 000 graves let you experience, what evil war can do.
Our aim goes like: The youth will meet the past and work together on peace projects. The participants learn that:     PEACE doesn't need to mean a war free environment.     Everybody needs to know himself before understanding others.     A norm or value can be different from each other.     Cultures can be normal for one and for the other very strange.     Education can be fun.
Structure The current accommodation capacity is 83 beds (group leaders and bus drivers inclusive).  There are five chalets, which are called according to the continents and which offer space for 75 young people, and a chalet for group leaders ("chalet Ysselsteyn"), which can be used by eight people.
Five "continent" chalets - Three rooms per chalet - two showers, two toilets and one wash basin in one washroom per chalet - per room two bunkbeds for four persons - living room with tables and chairs in each chalet - small roofed terrace with seating-accommodation in front of each chalet
Group leader house "Ysselsteyn" - four rooms for project and group leaders - each room has a shared bed for two persons - own shower, toilet and washbasin per room - living room with tables and chairs - telephone with coin slot - caffee maker and waterboiler - refrridgerator - small roofed terrace with seating- accommodation
The Main Building - a large dining room - comprehensively equipped kitchen (incase of self-catered):    microwave, refrigerator, gas cooker etc. - a large assembly room with TV and video set - recreation room with bar! - library with Dutch, German and English literature - refridgerator in diningroom - sanitation facilities, including a shower for handicapped people
Sport and spare time - campfire place - barbecue - jeue de boule - table tennis - football field - basketball - beach volleyball field
