Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V.
Since 1976
the German Military Cemetery in
Ysselsteyn has
been taken over by the Volksbund Deutsche
Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. (the
German War Graves Foundation). The Volksbund Deutsche
Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V.
is a non-profit-making organization with a humanitarian
guideline.
The aim of the work is: “Reconciliation over the
graves” and “Work for
Peace”.
The Volksbund works on behalf of the Federal German Government. The
most
important legal frameworks of its work are the Geneva Conventions and
international
war grave treaties and agreements. It takes care of more than 640 war
cemeteries and thus, around 1.8 million war graves. German war graves
are
spread over 100 countries in the world. The work is mostly financed by
members’
contributions and donations. The Volksbund Deutsche
Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V.
takes care of the war graves and keeps contact with the relatives of
the killed
soldiers.
It organizes youth camps during summer holiday, on national and
international levels, to care for the cemeteries and to foster the
cooperation
among different countries and peoples. It supports family members of
the
soldiers by searching for graves and ensuring that the war graves
remain a
warning sign of peace and understanding among peoples as well as places
to
remember the victims of war and tyranny. Through its activities the
Volksbund
proves its commitment to reconciliation, understanding and friendship
between
people. .
